The Balance

Living and High-Energy Moments

At Benjals, we celebrate the beauty of slow living.

Those gentle, intentional pauses that let us come home to ourselves.

…but let’s be so real: life isn’t always a serene retreat. Sometimes, embracing a bit of high-strung energy is part of what helps us thrive.

For many of us—myself included—there are days when being in a fast-paced, productive mode is actually empowering. It’s not a contradiction to love the quiet of a meditative morning and also find joy in the buzz of a day where you check off a dozen tasks. The essence of slow living isn’t about being slow all the time—it’s about creating a space to return to, a place of inner calm and intention that balances out the hectic parts of our lives.

In my own journey, the high-stress world of bedside nursing often felt overwhelming. It’s a field where some people thrive on that energy, but for me, peace is found in stepping back into yoga, meditation, and the simple rituals that let me channel my energy in a positive way. Today, for example, I had one of those high-strung, super-productive days—and it felt great. Yet what makes it truly fulfilling is knowing I can come back to that slower, more intentional pace whenever I need it.

So, if you’re reading this and wondering if you have to choose one lane—know that you don’t. Slow living is your sanctuary, not a restriction. It’s the space you create for yourself to unwind, to find joy in the simple things, and to ground yourself after the rush of a busy day.

And let me add one more piece to this puzzle: I know this struggle intimately. I am, at my baseline, an anxious person. It’s in my genetics, my personality, and yes, some past traumas. I used to believe that if I could just eliminate stress, I would finally find peace. But I’ve learned that a life without anxiety isn’t a life without stress. No matter how carefully we try to design our days, stress is part of the human experience. It will find its way in, and that’s okay. The goal isn’t to erase stress, but to learn how to meet it with grace.

For me, for us, that’s where the Benjals lifestyle comes in. It’s not about eliminating every stressful moment; it’s about having a toolkit of ways to cope, to come back home to yourself. I have a stressful life. It’s probably always going to have stressful chapters. But by embracing that and also embracing the tools of slow living, I’ve found a way to be at peace within it.

So yes, there is a time and a place. And the beauty of this journey is finding your own rhythm between the two.

Goodbye June, Happy July!
